Project Description
Preserving East Belfast’s heritage, the conservation and extension of this existing home marries comfort with traditional conservation. A new extension complements the existing structure, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality. This thoughtful design ensures the conservation of the existing home’s character, harmoniously blending the past and present for enduring appeal.
Modernizing Traditional Living
Energy Efficient Extension
Expansive glazing is positioned to exploit the sun path, harnessing solar gain and illuminating the interior spaces. By utilizing both exterior and interior windows, this natural light reaches the center circulation space of the home transforming a previously darker space into a bright and airy atmosphere. The further benefit of enhanced solar gain serves to enhance energy efficiency, with a reduction in operational energy costs. This thoughtful integration of sustainable design not only modernizes the home aesthetically but promotes a symbiotic relationship with the environment. This holistic approach to the renovation serves as a testament to the fusion between design and innovation.
Conservation of Period Features
Throughout the conservation and extension of the existing traditional home, the preservation of period features were a priority within the architectural narrative. This begins a dialogue between old and new, and preserves the history of the origins of the residence. Original moldings, wooden paneling and vintage fixtures are carefully preserved, ensuring the continuity of the existing character. Each detail is a testament to our commitment to conservation, allowing the past to gracefully coexist with modern additions. This architectural homage not only breathes new life into the home but also synthesizes a timeless elegance, capturing the essence of previous architectural eras while embracing the benefits of modernity.
